Having trouble with sinus pain?
It could be Sinusitis.
It could be Sinusitis.
You may have sinus trouble for a number of reasons. Sinusitis occurs when the mucous membranes lining the facial sinuses become inflamed. This inflammation is often caused by a bacterial infection, although viruses, fungi, allergies and air pollution can also cause irritation.
A lot of people mistake a particularly bad cold for sinusitis. Many of the symptoms are the same, including headache or face pain, a nasty runny nose and nasal congestion. If you have allergies, asthma, physical abnormalities in the nose or sinuses, or a compromised immune system, you are at greater risk.
Common symptoms of sinusitis include:
- Postnasal drip
- Tenderness of the face
(particularly under the eyes
or at the bridge of the nose)
- Pain in the teeth
- Pressure headaches
- Fever (Uncommon)
Sinus infections affect approximately 37 million Americans each year. Sinusitis usually occurs as a result of inflammation at the openings between the nose and sinus cavities. Inflammation is caused by colds, allergies, sudden air pressure changes, nasal polyps and other obstructions of the sinus openings.

Facts About Sinusitis
Sinus infections affect approx. 37 million Americans every year. Sinusitis appears when the nasal membrane gets affected by pollutants, cold or dry air and becomes inflamed.
For acute sinusitis, that generally lasts 2-3 weeks, most doctors recommend antibiotic treatment for 5 to 7 days. Chronic sinusitis can last longer, about 6-8 weeks and is more difficult to treat. Infectious sinusitis is generally caused by a bacteria; the non-infectious version is caused by pollutants and allergic factors.
